Testosterone  Write For Us

Testosterone is the primary sex hormone and anabolic steroid in men.  In men, testosterone plays a vital role in developing male reproductive tissues such as the testes and prostate and the development of secondary sex characteristics such as increased muscle and bone mass and hair growth.  In addition, testosterone affects the health and well-being of both sexes, including mood, behavior, and prevents osteoporosis.  Insufficient testosterone levels in men can lead to disorders such as fragility and bone loss.

Testosterone is an androstane class steroid that contains a keto group and a hydroxyl group at the third and seventeenth positions, respectively. It is biosynthesized from cholesterol in several steps and turns into inactive metabolic products in the liver.  It works by binding and activating the androgen receptor. In humans and most other vertebrates, testosterone is primarily secreted by the testes of men and, to a lesser extent, by women’s ovaries. On average, testosterone levels in adult men are seven to eight times higher than in adult women. Since the metabolism of testosterone is more pronounced in men, the daily production in men is about 20 times higher. Women are also more sensitive to the hormone.

What happens to testosterone levels in old age?

Testosterone levels typically peak in adolescence and early adulthood. With age, testosterone levels gradually decrease, usually around 1% per year after 30-40 years. It is critical to determine whether low testosterone levels result from normal aging or disease (hypogonadism) in older men.

Hypogonadism disrupts the production of normal testosterone levels due to problems with the testicles or the pituitary gland that controls the testes. Testosterone replacement treatment in injections, tablets, patches, or gels can improve the signs and symptoms of testosterone deficiency in men.

Does a natural decrease in testosterone levels cause the signs and symptoms of aging?

Not necessary. As men get older, they can develop a variety of signs and symptoms. Some of them associated with lower testosterone levels can be as follows:

Changes in sexual function. This can lead to decreased libido, less spontaneous erections, e.g., During sleep, and infertility.

Physical changes. Several material changes are possible, including increased body fat, decreased muscle size and strength, and decreased bone density. Swollen or sore breasts (gynecomastia) and hair loss can occur. You may have less energy than before.

Emotional changes. Low testosterone levels can contribute to decreased motivation or decreased self-confidence. You may feel sad, depressed, or have care fixed or memory things.

These signs and indications can be linked to other factors, such as drug side effects, obstructive sleep apnea, thyroid problems, diabetes, and depression. These conditions can also lead to low testosterone levels, so that treatment can lead to increased testosterone levels.

A blood test is used to diagnose low testosterone levels.

Can testosterone therapy improve youth and vitality?

Testosterone therapy can help reverse hypogonadism, but it’s not clear whether testosterone therapy will benefit healthy older men.

While some men believe that taking testosterone supplements makes them feel younger and more alert, there is little evidence of testosterone use in otherwise healthy men. And also, American College of Physicians guidelines indicates that testosterone therapy can slightly improve sexual function in some men. Still, there is the little signal that it improves other functions such as energy and get-up-and-go.

What Are the Risks of Testosterone Treatment for Normal Senior?

There are several risks associated with testosterone treatment, including:

  • Worsening sleep apnea is a potentially serious sleep disorder in which breathing stops and starts several times again.
  • Causes acne or other skin reactions.
  • Stimulate benign prostate growth (benign prostatic hyperplasia) and the growth of existing prostate cancer.
  • Mammal enlargement.
  • Reduced sperm production or contraction of the testicles.
  • It stimulates the excessive production of red blood cells, which increases the risk of blood clots. Therefore,  clot can break off, enter the bloodstream, and lodge in the lungs, blocking blood flow (pulmonary embolism).
  • In addition, some research suggests that testosterone therapy can increase your risk of heart disease. More research is needed.

Should You Consult Your Doctor About Testosterone Therapy?

If you’re wondering whether testosterone treatment is proper for you, talk to your doctor about the risks and benefits. Your doctor will likely measure your testosterone levels at least twice before recommending testosterone treatment.

It is not recommended to treat normal aging with testosterone treatment. Suppose you don’t have a health condition that contributes to low testosterone levels. In that case, your doctor may suggest natural ways to increase testosterone levels, such as weight loss and muscle gain through exercise.
